SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE STUDENTS: A STUDY ON THEIR ROLE IN COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

This study explores the pivotal role of socially responsible students in driving community development, emphasizing the integration of ethical consciousness and civic engagement within educational systems. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research surveyed 50 college students from urban and rural areas using a structured Social Responsibility Scale. Findings reveal a high self-perception of social responsibility among students, supported by strong internal consistency (Cronbach’s α = 0.94) and a unidimensional factor structure. Gender-wise comparisons showed no significant differences, while cluster analysis identified distinct engagement levels, indicating the need for tailored interventions. Despite promising attitudes, students face challenges such as time constraints, lack of resources, and social barriers that hinder sustained participation in community initiatives. The study concludes with recommendations to embed social responsibility into academic curricula, strengthen institutional support, and promote inclusive community involvement. These measures can transform students into effective agents of social change and holistic development.
